Non-Affiliation Notice

This is part of the Terms of Service. It exists as its own page because it needs to be linkable from a store listing, an OAuth consent screen, a footer and a support reply, and because "not affiliated" buried in clause 6 of something is not a disclosure anybody reads.

The statement

CourseLite is an independent product, built and operated by the people who make CourseLite and by nobody else.

CourseLite is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, certified by, partnered with, or in any way officially connected to:

• Instructure, Inc., or Canvas, or any other learning management system or its vendor — including Blackboard, Moodle, D2L Brightspace and Google Classroom;
• Google LLC or any Google product, including Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets and Google Workspace;
• OpenAI;
• Clerk, Stripe, Cloudflare or Neon;
• any university, college, school, school district, department, faculty or instructor;
• any accreditation body, examination board, professional body, certification provider or licensing authority.

No relationship of any of those kinds exists, none has been sought, and none is implied by anything in this product.

Why each of those is on the list

Canvas and other learning management systems

CourseLite reads a Canvas course through the session you are already signed in to, in your own browser. That access is yours, granted to you by your institution. It is not an integration, it is not an LTI app, it is not installed by your school, and no agreement exists between CourseLite and Instructure or any LMS vendor.

Concretely, in this product:

• No LMS logo, brand mark, product name styling, colour or interface element is used, and using one is prohibited in this codebase (CLAUDE.md rule 9).
• Canvas access is read-only. There is no write path, and no submission path. CourseLite cannot hand anything in.
• The word "Canvas" is used descriptively, to say which system your course is in, because that is the only way to say it.

"Canvas" and "Instructure" are trademarks of Instructure, Inc. Every other product name here belongs to its owner. They are used for identification only, under nominative fair use, and their use does not imply any endorsement.

Google

CourseLite asks Google for one narrow permission, drive.file, when you choose to connect it, and Google's own consent screen is what grants it. Google reviews applications that request access to user data; CourseLite has not completed that review, and during the private beta access is limited to accounts added as test users. Google may show an "unverified app" warning. Nothing about that review, complete or not, creates a relationship between Google and CourseLite beyond being a developer using a public API.

Your school

We have no agreement with your institution, and none with your instructor. Your school has not vetted CourseLite, has not approved it, and in many cases does not know it exists. Whether you may use it for a given assignment is decided by your instructor and your institution's rules, not by us — see the Academic Integrity Policy.

If your school requires a vendor to hold a specific certification or to sign a specific agreement — FERPA-related terms, a data processing agreement, SOC 2, ISO 27001, a VPAT — CourseLite does not meet that requirement today, and the Privacy Policy says so in the same words.

The AI provider, and our infrastructure providers

OpenAI, Clerk, Stripe, Cloudflare and Neon are services CourseLite buys, the way any product buys hosting. Being a customer of a company is not a partnership with it, and none of them has reviewed, approved or endorsed this product. What each one receives is listed in subprocessors.md.

What we ask of you

The same rule, in the other direction. Under the Acceptable Use Policy you must not:

• suggest that CourseLite is affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official integration of any LMS, any university, or any of the providers above;
• use CourseLite's name, logo or marks to imply a partnership or endorsement; or
• name or brand anything so as to suggest it is CourseLite, or that CourseLite endorses it.
