Delete your account
This removes your CourseLite account and everything in it. It cannot be undone, and there is no way to restore it afterwards.
How to do it
In CourseLite: Settings → Delete your account. You type the word delete once to confirm. There is no second “are you sure”, no discount offer and no “pause instead”.
By email: write to support@courselite.org from the address on your account and ask. The same operation runs, so this is not the slower route — and it is the one to use if you can no longer sign in.
It cannot be undone. Nothing in CourseLite restores a deleted account.
If you are paying for a plan
Read this before you press anything, because the two halves pull in different directions and only one of them is good news.
- You are not charged again. Before anything is deleted, CourseLite tells Stripe to cancel your subscription at the end of the period you have already paid for — the same cancellation the Cancel button uses. Stripe issues no further invoice.
- Your account goes today. So the rest of that paid period is time you cannot use, and it is not refunded automatically. You can ask, and we will answer.
- If a payment has already failed and Stripe is still trying to collect it, we cancel outright instead of scheduling, so that a retry cannot take your money days after you asked to be forgotten.
- If Stripe cannot be reached, the deletion is refused and nothing is deleted. We will not delete your account and leave a subscription billing you for a product you can no longer open.
If what you want is to stop paying and keep your work, you want Cancel, not Delete. Cancelling deletes nothing — not a course, not a notebook, not a draft — and you keep the plan until the period you paid for runs out. To ask about a refund for unused time, email support@courselite.org; requests are considered individually, as the Refund and Cancellation Policy explains.
What is deleted
One statement removes your account record and the database removes everything attached to it — 40 tables, each asserted empty afterwards by a test that runs against a real database. Your course material and your drafted work are removed, not hidden.
- Every course you added, and all of its material — modules, assignments, pages, and the text extracted from your files
- Every notebook, flashcard deck and practice test
- Where you got to in every study set, and the record of how each card has been answered
- Every saved chat, and every message in it
- Every homework draft, plan and revision
- Which Google files you had attached, and your Google connection
- Your profile, settings, notification preferences, plan record and usage counters
What is not deleted
We would rather you read this here than discover it later.
- Google Docs and decks CourseLite made or opened stay in your Google Drive. CourseLite has never been able to delete them and does not start now — it only forgets which ones it was pointed at.
- Your sign-in — email, password and connected accounts — is held by Clerk, not by CourseLite. Deleting here does not delete that.
- A small, one-way record that this account has already used its free allowance, so deleting and signing up again does not reset it. It is an opaque hash with a date, it names nobody, and it expires on its own.
- Payment records Stripe is required to keep, such as past invoices.
- How many AI tokens each of your requests used, which model answered it, and when — with no content of any kind. This one keeps your user id and there is no good reason for it to; removing that is an open fix rather than a decision.
- That an anti-abuse decision was taken about the account: a reason code, a risk band, and the category names of the signals involved. Never a hash, never an email address, never a network address.
- The hash of a one-time bot-check token, so that the same token cannot be replayed. It expires on its own.
- Error records logged while you were signed in. The redacted message, route and status stay so the bug stays visible to us; the user id on them is emptied, so they stop naming you.
- Waitlist entries from before sign-up opened. The waitlist is closed and nothing can join it any more, but entries already collected are still held. They are not linked to any account, so deleting an account does not remove one — email us and we will remove yours.
- Backups. Our database provider, Neon, keeps point-in-time backups on a schedule it sets and we do not control, so data deleted from the live database can persist in one of those backups until that window passes, and is gone from there when it does. We would rather tell you that plainly than quote you a window we are not the ones who set.
Deleting one course instead of everything
You do not have to delete your account to delete material. Deleting a course removes that course and everything under it, and gives the storage back immediately. What it does not give back is an allowance you already spent — adding a course costs one, and deleting it does not refund it. Re-adding a course you previously added costs nothing.
Your other rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to a copy of your information, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, to take it elsewhere, or to complain to a data protection authority. Email support@courselite.org. We will respond within 30 days and will not charge you or treat you differently for asking. There is no self-service export button yet; ask and we will produce your data.
